Prepare for some new Muppets TV, “Office” style.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new Muppets show will have a more adult theme, looking into the private lives of the Muppets as they work on a new TV show in a faux documentary in the vein of “The Office.” Which is basically a modern version of the 70s show, but now probably with Gonzo talking to the camera about his troubling chicken addiction (because if anyone is the Creed Bratton of the Muppets, it’s Gonzo) and Kermit smugly smirking at the camera when Fozzie’s jokes fall flat or someone in the Muppet office says something really awkward.
According to ABC: “The Muppets return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that — for the first time ever — will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.” So, like how “The Office” turned the mundane of everyday life in a work environment into comedy gold, we will now see the mundane everyday lives of Muppets in a similar fashion. Which actually sounds pretty entertaining.
