Sometimes we either got to get busy living, or get busy making classic movies into 8-Bit game-like videos and post them online. And it appears that CineFix over on YouTube has decided on the later.
The 8-Bit version of “The Shawshank Redemption” seems to hit on most of the main plot points from the film, but lending more insight into Andy Dufresne’s personal hell by reminding the viewers of the personal hell they felt while playing “Super Mario Bros. 2.” Because getting through that game felt like Andy’s crawl to freedom through 500-yards of feces smelling foulness most of can’t even imagine — or maybe we just don’t want to.
The video does a good job at recreating the story, and adds RPG-like elements for the Rita Hayworth and Raquel Welch posters and Andy’s escape hammer hidden in the Bible. Oh, and they add fart-like sounds at Andy’s escape moment in the video, you know — for an added effect I guess.
Other films they have given the 8-Bit treatment to include “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Fast & Furious 8.” But this adaptation is truly a feather in their cap.
So, behold 8-Bit “Shawshank.” Enjoy!
