Quentin Tarantino has been on a history kick with his past few films. From the WWII rewriting-of-history that was the amazing “Inglourious Basterds” to the slave-turned-bounty hunter flick that was the equally amazing “Django Unchained,” Tarantino has been looking toward the past with the settings of his films. And he somehow makes his style of long-winded snarky dialogue and modern soundtracks work with these projects.
Now he has made a Western with “The Hateful Eight,” a film that almost wasn’t made after the script was leaked by Gawker, a website that has a checkered history with journalistic ethics. But after a successful live reading of the script, Tarantino decided to forge ahead with the film. The plot, according to IMDB, is this: “In post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunters try to find shelter during a blizzard but get involved in a plot of betrayal and deception.”
The film will be released on Dec. 25 as a roadshow presentation in 70mm format theaters only and a wider release on Jan. 8.
