Wednesday was “Back to the Future” Day, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the film franchise. It also allowed all of us to reflect on how much/little we have advanced since we saw the fictionalized 2015 from the second film in the series. Hoverboards are kind of around, I guess. Companies rushed to make replicas of the joke products from the film as well. But what would Marty and Doc think about the real 2015, when the real-life Biff is running for president and there are no flying cars?
We got a glimpse of that Wednesday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” when Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reprised their iconic “Back to the Future” characters for a pretty funny bit.
After Kimmel tells them about how far we’ve come as a society by explaining the cronut, Marty says he thinks 2015 “kinda sucks” while Doc Brown wonders what Grindr is on Kimmel’s Smart Phone (you probably do not want to know, Doc). Doc then leaves Marty as he goes off to find out “where this all went wrong” in 1985.
It was fun to see them reprise these characters, and poke fun at what has been going on in the world since 1985. This is probably as close as we will ever get at another go at the “Back to the Future” franchise, and I’m fine with that.
