It is official: Guns N’ Roses will play the music festival Coachella. And at this point, it is no secret that most of the original lineup will reunite for the first time in two decades to perform, which as anyone who has ever followed this band, is almost a damn miracle. Axl Rose is set to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Tuesday night to make the official announcement. It certainly did not take long for Axl to already cancel an appearance, which he did by bowing out of the Kimmel show for the reunion announcement. So, things are already off to a classic GNR start.
Thus far, the reunion will apparently be Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan (a safe bet since the news was posted to each of their Facebook accounts). Oddly missing from the announcement is Izzy Stradlin, who was a big force in the writing process for the band’s early material and has seemingly been on good ground with the other members. Not so oddly missing is original drummer Steven Adler, who left the band in 1990.
There are many rumors that this will also lead to a huge tour, which based on the band’s history, could end up a huge mess of late gigs, in-fighting and crumble due to the basic unpredictability that has characterized Axl Rose’s whole career. Or it could change the course for the band, leading to new material and more shows. Who am I kidding, the chances the band implodes onstage before the eyes of many already jaded fans during its first show are pretty good.
The Coachella festival will take place over two weekends: April 15 – 17, and 22 – 24.
