Marvel and Netflix have perhaps created the best elements of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (to me, anyway). First with “Daredevil,” which put to rest that Marvel is nothing but hokey jokes and allowed a character to be as dark as Batman — especially with season two’s Punisher arc. Then came “Jessica Jones,” which also took on grittier elements while maintaining some awesome surreal moments that made for some great television.
Now we have Luke Cage, and it seems that he, too, will continue with the grittier elements of the Marvel Universe (basically, New York City). Cage isn’t exactly new to this universe, we did meet him on “Jessica Jones.” But this show, based off the trailer, looks pretty awesome.
Here is the description from Netflix: “After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.”
The show is set to air Sept. 30 on Netflix.
